CURRENT FAVES

Castle Waiting!

Linda Medley is a brilliant and talented woman. How's that for an accolade? Castle Waiting is worth waiting for -- get it? Worth Waiting... anyway, it's good. She's a nice lady, too... very talented -- Did I mention that? You can order copies from OLIO, PO Box 1012, Petaluma, CA 94953 for $24.00 for six issues. SAFETY RATING B+ (magic)

AKIKO!

Mark Crilley is sooooo talented. His detailed freeform architectural drawings convey an awesome magnificence -- but that's not why I like Akiko -- IT'S CUTE! Ask your local comic book store owner to order it for you (see shipping warning above -- arGh!). SAFETY RATING A+!

BONE!

Okay, okay. Everyone likes BONE, but why shouldn't I like it, too? It's a cool (albeit LONG) story, and has some of the neatest characters around. You can order Bone for $2.95 each from: Cartoon Books, PO Box 16973, Columbus, OH 43216. SAFETY RATING B+! (violence)

Mad Raccoons!

This is a new fave! I met Cathy Hill at the big convention in San Diego in July of '97. Her comic book is truly comic, and her raccoons are truly MAD! This is an hilarious book. Wish that I could tell you how to get a hold of this one. Just dig around, I guess. SAFETY RATING A!

Pakkin's Land!

Gary and Rhoda Shipman have created an exquisitely rendered fantasy. Much like C.S.Lewis' Narnia books, Pakkin's Land is a strong Christian allegory. Copies can be ordered for $2.95 from Gary and Rhoda at: PO Box 10172, Salinas, CA 93912. SAFETY RATING A+!

Stinz!

Talented Donna Barr is the creator of Stinz. On the surface, it might seem that a book about centaurs would be rather fantastical, but Donna's story is a very down-to-earth portrait of German country life. Copies of Stinz can be ordered from Donna for $2.95 each at: 1318 North Montgomery, Bremerton, WA 98312. SAFETY RATING B! (language, violence)

Patty Cake!

Scott Robert's is just a JEEeeNyuss! Patty Cake is an earthy, delightful portrait of childhood. It is sure to strike a chord with readers. For me personally, it brings back all the delight and fear of childhood. This comic is probably my current favorite. Copies can be ordered for $2.95 each from Scott at: PO Box 546, Monsey, NY 10952. There are two series now, one is published by Scott and the new one by Tapestry, so be sure and start with Scott's original series (a few issues are becoming rare). SAFETY RATING B+! (language)
