Leonard Sparks: Born in South Carolina about 1822; parentage has not been established. Married Zeriah Sparks (a distant cousin?)sometime between 1835 & 1839 in SC. Listed on 1850 Union Co.SC census as an Overseer. Moved to Gwinnett Co.,Georgia between 1850 & 1854. Enlisted in CSA, Co. F, 66th Reg. GA Inf., died at Camp Douglas, IL (pow) on 30 Jan 1865. Zeriah died after 1884 & is supposedly buried in family plot at "the old Garrett Place".
George Washington Sparks: born 6 March 1844 in SC; died 5 July 1905 in Clarksville, Johnson Co., AR buried at Shady Grove Cemetery. Married Sarah Jane Turner (b: 31 July 1849 in GA; d: 7 Dec. 1912 in Johnson Co., AR; d/o Staton & Nancy ChastainTurner) about 1868 near Atlanta, GA(?). G.W. enlisted in the CSA, Company F, 24th Regiment Georgia Infantry, served the entire war, surrendered at Appomattox Court House 9 April 1865. Moved to AR with wife, Sarah, Staton & Jane Turner. This family is listed on the 1870 Johnson Co. census; they later moved to Pope Co, AR.
John Leonard Sparks: born 10 Sept 1873 in AR; died 19 April 1856 in Clarksville, AR, buried at Hays Chapel cemetery, Johnson Co., AR. Married Eliza Granville Hays (b; 12 Aug 1877, d: 15 Aug 1930) in AR. Eliza's parents, and many other Hays family members are buried at Hays Chapel Cemetery. Charlie Sparks died of "slow walking fever" in 1918. He is buried at Hays Chapel in un-marked grave; however, the burial site is known.
Lillie Belle Sparks: born in Johnson County, AR in 1896, married Hester McKinley Gray, on 18 Dec 1918, died 2 March 1986 in Tulsa, OK. Hester was the son of John Wade & Hannah Adaline (Matlock) Gray, born 1898 in Johnson Co., died July 1964 in Tulsa, OK. Lillie & Hester lived in Broken Arrow/Coweta OK the first years of marriage and returned to Clarksville, AR prior to 1927. Hester was farmer/coal miner and Lillie chased folks around town hitting them with her rolling pin. Oops, nope that wasn't her...must be thinking of another person.
