the band began in without jeremy enigk in 1992. in late '93 they released
one seven inch on their own label, one day i stopped breathing. it was
called "flatland spider." jeremy joined the band in late '93. they then
released another seven inch on their own label, this one called "thief,
steal me a peach." on ? the band signed to the seattle indie label sub-pop.
on may 10, 1993, diary was released. in march of 1994, before the release
of the second album, jeremy became a born again christian. because of this,
he naturally wanted to sing about his new life. dan didn't mind the idea,
nate didn't at first, but then later changed his mind, and william was
opposed to the idea from the beginning. as a result of this, the band broke
up. on november 7, 1995, after the band had broken up, their second album,
lp2, was released. the band has now reunited with former mommyheads bassist
jeff palmer. thier new album, how it feels to be something on, will be
released on september 22, 1998.

III. BAND HISTORY
william has been playing drums since the fifth grade (where he often
received detention for putting in too many rolls.) in seventh grade he
was introduced to rock music by his brother. nate bought his first bass
not because he had intentions of becoming a musician, but because he was
told that the bass was the sexiest instrument. william's first band was
called the screaming hormones. it consisted of about ten people from his
school. basically, anyone who was interested in classic or punk rock. he
and john atkins, a member of the screaming hormones, broke off for about
four years and concentrated on learning how to write and shape songs. he
says this was the most influential part of his career. william then got
into a band with jeremy enigk called reason for hate. he left that one
when his friend, greg williamson, asked him to go on tour and drum for
his band positive greed.
nate's first band was called product of rape. it was with friends jason
cobb, glen essary, and glen attebury. the whole thing was an argument.
nate considers his first actual band diddly squat. they played hardcore
and put out one 7". nate's next band was called brotherhood, a straight
edge band from seattle. next, nate and the drummer for diddly squat, eric
akre, conspired with the washington d.c. band, christ on a crutch, and
reformed that band in seattle. they put out a lot of singles and one lp.
while will was in three other bands, including one called igloo sect,
he also joined a band with nate and dan hoerner, called chewbacca kaboom.
after many name changes, it eventually became sunny day real estate. nate
left for a while to go on tour with christ on a crutch, and during this
time, dan moved to bass and they recruited jeremy enigk to play guitar
and sang. they were called thief, steal me a peach. upon nate's return,
dan went back to guitar, jeremy stayed in the band, and they reverted to
the name sunny day real estate.
IV. A. JEREMY; jeremy uses three different
guitars now. he has his old ebony (black) gibsong sg standard that
you'll recognize from the diary and lp2 days. he also
has a sunburst les paul custom semi-hollow body with an f-hole. fianlly,
perhaps his prized posession, a yellow/blond hollow les paul elegant from
the gibson custom shop. he runs his guitars into a pedal board conatining
an ibanez ts(tube screamer)-9 distortion pedal, an arion stage tuner, and
a plain grey pedal rumoured to have been made for him by greg. he
uses a vox 2X12 ac-30 class a rectifier amp.
B. DAN; dan also uses three guitars, a
hollow body reissue of an older gibson model, an ebony les paul custom,
and and ebony les paul standard. like jeremy, he uses an ibanez ts-9
distortion pedal and and arion stage tuner. he uses a matchless dc-10
30 watt 2X12 como amp.
C. JOE; straight
from joe's mouth, he uses:
8 by 10" ampeg cab
D. WILL; ayotte drumset and zildjian cymbals...all
ride, no crash...the following is from aol's drum mag page...
Drums: Ayotte WoodHoop
Cymbals: Zildjian
William Goldsmith also uses Zildjian 2B and 5B wood tip sticks.
E. NATE; fender precision bass and and
rare ampeg 9x10 amp.
F. Jeff; an ampeg svt head (an older classic
all tube 300 watt one, with a silver face), an ampeg 8x10 cabinet and gibson
basses (a thunderbird, and one that looked like an updated grabber, at
least inbody shape), he plays with his fingers.
V. WHERE THEY ARE NOW
A. JEREMY; he is now a solo artist and has released an album on sub-pop
called "return of the frog queen." his solo stuff in on hold until after
the new sdre album and tour, but he's anxious to get to work on a new solo
album. he told me that he has a couple of things recorded with will. he
is also featured on the song "luchuck" of of bare minimum's new cd, can't
cure the nailbiters.
B. DAN; he lives on a farm in rural washington where he lives off of
the land and his own crops (except for the occasional trips to safeway.)
C. WILL; he is no longer a member of the foo fighters. he recorded some
drums for mary lou lord's new album, he is on the song called "subway".
D. Nate; he is staying with the foo fighters and is no longer a part
of the band. reasons for this are the simple facts that he really likes
playing in the foo fighters and to rational decision that he has a mortgage
and stuff like that and he needs to make a living.
