"If internet newsgroup postings are any indication,
most Sunny Day Real
Estate devotees don't agree that this is the
best album the Seattle band
have ever recorded. But to paraphrase Roger
Ebert, the critic who writes
to please fans isn't a critic- he's a parrot.
How It Feels To Be
Something On is a panoramic, spellbinding record,
the first of Sunny
Day's three that doesn't require an emotional
bias on the part of the
listener. And Sunny Day have been known
for their ability to bring out
strong emotions- the cryptic lyrics of their
debut, Diary, have
reportedly saved lives, and those unprinted in
the follow-up 1995's
untitled, posthumously released "Pink Album",
have recieved passionate
fan interpretations. On How It Feels To
Be Something On, however, the
recently reuninted quartet reveal more of themselves
than ever before,
weaving lyrical themes of love, loss, and spirituality
through sprawling
musical references to Eastern modalism and Western
art rock."
Quote from Jeremy on opposite page: " I was very
aggressive originally
with Christ and talking about Christ. It
was just a sudden change in my
personality; an excitement. And I think
it frightened the guys, mainly
because they probably saw the inevitable demise
of the band through that.
But now I think that everybody pretty much
is like, if you want to sing
about God, right on. Whatever makes the
music awesome"
