Some other cool things that came out of the night;
1. Nate was there. He played it very low pro and did not
even talk to Jeremy
or the guys.(He might have talked to Will, I'm not sure.) Another weird
fact
is that Joe has never met Nate and does not even know what he looks
like!
2. SDRE HAS BEEN WRITING NEW SONGS AND PLANS TO RECORD WITHIN
THE NEXT
YEAR!!!!!!!! While talking to Jeremy after the show he told me
that he took
alot of his songs that he was going to use for his next solo project
and
donated them to the sunny day foundation. He explained that some
of the newer
songs are acoustic with more instruments involved.
3. This might have been known to alot of you but Jeremy just
told me last
night that they are not on a record label as of right now. They
fulfilled
their 3 album contract with Sub Pop and are now shopping around for
a new
label. He said something about Sub Pop treating the band like
shit and they
don't plan on returning. Jeremy still has two more albums on
his solo
contract with Sub Pop though. So I guess this tour is self supported.
4. Joe Bass is not officially in the band yet. It looks
as though that deal
will be done soon though. Jeremy said that the band wanted him
in and he
wanted in but paper signing has not been official yet. It looks
as though he
will be sdre's permanent bass player.
5. I also found out why Jeff left the band after recording How
It Feels. I
guess a week before they were about to go on tour he faxed SDRE a contract
where he was to get paid X amount of dollars. SDRE did not have
the kind of
funding he was asking for in this non-negotiable contract and had to
say see
ya.
6. SDRE's next tour will be in about a year, or so Jeremy says
It was a great show that left me emotionally shaking. So theres
info for
everyone, and I hope you guys get out there and see them.
the always sincere,

A couple comments from the show (I'm not part of the mailing list,
so maybe
some of these were already mentioned):
1) I read the review posted on your site,
and I disagree with the
comments about the setlist of this show vs the previous LA show.
Both
setlists were close to identical (If memory serves me correct, I believe
the
only difference was they played The Blankets were the Stairs this show
and
played Days were Golden a few months ago).
2) There were signs posted throughout
stating: "By entering, you are
allowing yourself/image to be used in a SDRE movie" There were
a few
cameras filming throughout the show. I have no idea what plans
are in the
works though...
Zarefsky, Evan <Evan.Zarefsky@transamerica.com>
I got to downtown about 6:00pm and noticed a big padded envelope on
the
door of Wuxtry Records that said "Sunny Day Tix SOLD OUT". Fortunately,
I
had mine already - I just wondered about the folks on here that said
they
were planning on driving over and getting them at the club. Did
people
luck out?
I zipped over to the 40 Watt to check on taping policies. While
there, I
met two who'd driven down from Wisconsin. I was amazed - they
drove down
late in the week and hung out in Athens for the weekend.
When I got there, SDRE was soundchecking. Yep, they had the suits.
What
was interesting was they had them on during the soundcheck, too.
I got back to the venue around 9:30pm. At some point early in
the evening,
one of the toilets in the women's room overflowed, leaving a puddle
of
water down the left side of the club. (I stuck to the right side
for most
of the night.)
Will came out and watched most of the Heroic Doses set. Dan came
out for a
little while during their set, too.
Finally, SDRE:
Set: Pillars / Guitar and Video Games / Song About an Angel / 100 Million
/
Waffle / Every Shining Time You Arrive / Blankets Were the Stairs /
The
Prophet / How It Feels to Be Something On / Rodeo Jones / J'nuh
Encore: In Circles / Days Were Golden
Just before the last verse in "100 Million", Will's kick drum pedal
broke.
He ended up trying to kick the drum with his foot, until his drum tech
ran
in with a replacement. Dan jokingly referred to it as a "new
version" of
100 Million.
Dan mentioned that this was their first performance in Athens, and noted
feeling a bit intimidated playing there. (The 40 Watt is the
place that
many Athens bands got their start, including R.E.M.)
"The Prophet" was *amazing*. And it was fun watching Dan get into
the
j'nuh part of "J'nuh".
My only complaint about the show - what's with people yelling out song
titles? I swear, I've been to a lot of concerts, and I've never
heard so
many people request certain songs. Are they really going to play
"Spade
and Parade" just because someone asks? Once again, just like
the Atlanta
show in November, one knucklehead kept screaming "RED ELEPHANT!" throughout
the entire show.
Some people retaliated with their own requests. "Every song from
every
CD!" "Play what you want to play!" "Play some Circle Jerks!"
(These
three earned comments from Dan.)
But, overall, it was an *amazing* evening. Plus, I got to meet
the
Goatman. How can you beat that?
See ya...
Chris B <wlstuff@mindspring.com>
I was at the Athens show and met the same couple from Wisconsin.
They were
really cool, they just decided to go at the last minute and had connections
to
get tickets. We're talking a 16 hour drive!
The only complaint I had about the show is the crowd. I was directly
in front
of Dan in the very front and it seems as though the few "front row"
people
were the only ones "into" the show. I guess the show in Nov.
at the
masquarade was so awesome and it seemed as though everyone was on the
same
"intensity level", so I expected the same in Athens. I think
the guys also
expected the show to be incredible---it was--but the Nov. show in Atlanta
was
incredably indescribable. Ok--I'm done .
Jenn Rose-Atlanta <Jenn1078@aol.com>
i have to say that the first time i saw them play my life was changed.
every
sound they made gripped my soul, i am not being dramatic. every note,
every
chord, every beat. the show changed me. i left the masquerade in atlanta
a
different person.
this time, i got to just have a good time. they wore suits!
they played
pillars first...starting with one of their greatest songs!...the audience
sang
along!..every note, every word. it was magical, to turn around
and see
hundreds of faces smiling, heads moving to the same beat! the
band played for
us like they would never play again. sweat poured off jeremy's
face, dan was
nearly laughing the whole time as he sang along with jeremy, but not
into the
microphone. it was unforgettable!
but still, the thing that leaves the deepest impression, the last song.
they
didnt rock out to leave the crowd chearing their names, they left the
stage
one by one, eventually leaving only the drum beating, that even now,
long
after the show, long after the crowd stopped screaming, still ressounds
in my
memory.
*danielle* <Roxy1113@aol.com>
Very intimate show, Jeremy was a lot more into it than the Atlanta
show in November. He actually spoke more than once! (How dreamy!)
-During 100 million, William's kick drum messed up, the pedal broke
or
something, so they had to add an extra little part to give the drum
tech some time to fix it. Dan said "How'd you all like the new part?"
-There was an amazing new verse during the middle of "Every Shining
Time" Jeremy's voice live, undescribably beautiful
-During "How it Feels" I could have sworn Jeremy sang:
"Don't tell me God" instead of "Don't tell me now"
That's only what I heard, but my girlfriend said that's what she
thinks he said, too. I'm not trying to start any rumors or anything
Overall, another amazing show, very, very intimate. I'm spoiled, I
hope they come back to Georgia again
Chris <iscarabaid13@yahoo.com>
i was a bit surprised by the lack of ppl at first, but after a few minutes
i
understood... last nov. (the 19th to be exact) sdre played at
that very same
club to a way-over capacity crowd, which i'm guessing, was due to the
fact
that it was their only fla. date and no one had any clue they'd be
back in a
few months, and it was a friday nite... so this time they returned,
along
with 3 or 4 more fla dates, and on a tuesday, so i was quite pleased
that i
went to this show as my introduction to the their live show.
the show went on flawlessly, execpt for a bit of a feedback prob at
the end &
a broken string on jeremy's guitar (altho he did continue to play 4
or 5 more
songs with that same guitar w/out fixing it)... i must say it was awesome.
<Richbully@aol.com>
I remember thinking as the first chorus of Pillars kicked in (total
anxiety...) that "this is too much", Jeremy looked like he was going
to
explode. I was all smiles throughout! One thing: Pillars, live, is
a
much darker, spookier song than the album, it comes across live as
an
aggressive, urgent and devastating song.
After Guitar & Video Games, my friend turned to me and said, "Good
God!!" I think the first SDRE visit to Nashville definitely won over
some people. They played every song as though it was their last, ever...
very intense, Dan in particular gets very wrapped up in his playing,
like on Jnuh and Guitar...
I thought for a moment that the line from Guitar "ways to refuse to
follow the rules of fashion" might have something to do with the band's
reunion itself, specifically William's quitting the Foos...just
conjecture...
The Prophet live is unreal, as other reviewers have stated. It starts
off disguised in feedback and random noise and then Jeremy steps to
the
mike and starts the long droning vocal... by the time it kicks in the
whole place was absolutely insane. The band really squeezed the life
out
of that song. It was over and I think the crowd had a collective deep
breath. Come to think of it, the space between all the songs was often
a
dead, anxious silence, band AND audience. There were a few annoying
people yelling 'FORTY EIGHT!!!!' but not too many. In fact the place
where I was standing was like a reading room until the encore when
someone yelled ISCARABAID.
One thing: Roses In Water was downright SCARY. It was snarling and evil
and mysterious and almost violent.
Days were Golden is quickly becoming a favorite of mine and live it's
exceptional. Some people held up lighters, which I first thought was
corny but after like ten people did it, it actually looked cool. The
crowd was VERY, VERY into this show, they were like cult followers,
the
only time I have seen an audience so rapt was at Lungfish.
William is the best drummer in America, BAR NONE. He makes Alexis
Fleisig of Girls Against Boys sound like he's sitting in on a Steely
Dan
audition. By the second song he had put as much energy into it as most
drummers do in a set. Adam Wade (drum tech) was massaging his back
or
something at one point, it honestly looked as though he was going to
collapse.
This show was very worth the three-hour drive from Memphis in a cold
rain, on the way back it cleared up and stars came out, once upon a
time
that might inspire some prophetic words from me but in my wiser, older
years I just managed a nice smile, and woke up four hours later to
come
to work this morning with a smile still on my face, thanks guys for
a
GREAT show. Nice job!!

everything from hiftbso except two promises and tsopf
song about an angel
in circles

sorry, but i can't quite remember the exact order, but it was the pretty
standard set.
comments:
-they were soooo much better tonight than they were in october (and
they
were great then, too)- they seemed absolutely thrilled to be playing
there, and everything sounded great. maybe it was just me, but they
seemed to be MUCH louder this time around, which just added to the
intensity of the show.
-will had bronchitis, but played anyway. the band asked people not
to
smoke in the club, and nearly everyone complied (which really surprised
me). that didn't keep him from beating the FUCK out of those drums.
i
could feel the floor shaking at times.
-i don't care what people say, i think mk ultra is great. i feel sorry
for them (and heroic doses as well, who were awesome too) because people
just stood around and talked (loudly) during their whole set. few people
paid any attention to them.
-the crowd: half of the crowd was AWESOME - singing along, dancing,
and
just being great fans. they were much more energetic than the october
crowd, and dan said that the lawrence shows had some of their favorite
crowds. however, the other half of the people were pretty shitty. they
talked through everything, pushed people around, made fun of those
who
were getting into music, etc. the guys in front of me were _really_
upset because they didn't play seven, and by the middle of the show
just
stood there with their arms crossed. they called the band 'assholes'
and
'sell-outs' because they played mostly new stuff. apparently they drove
hundreds of miles just to hear that song... if you guys are on this
list, FUCK YOU YOU BUNCH OF BABIES! i hope they didn't embarass
themselves by 'telling the band off' like they said they were going
to.
anyway, listening to these shitheads complain the whole time was lame
and it took something away from the show for me as well as others.
i'm
not even going to get into the heroin-sheik girl who was grinding on
me
*shudders at the memory* anyway, for the most part the crowd was cool,
with some exceptions.
i have more things to say, but i have already dozed off twice while
writing this. please forgive me if this is unreadable, i'm usually
fairly articulate. i'm going to bed now.
since i'm a little more awake now, i remembered some interesting
things the band said at the lawrence show... at least, things
some people may find interesting.
*after they finished the prophet, dan said the song was about and
dedicated to the late (i'm going to spell this wrong, apology in
advance) nusrat fateh ali khan. from the reaction of the crowd, i
think very few people knew who he was.
*before playing roses in water, dan says "so...this next song is
about love." that brought an almost audible gasp of surprise from
more than a few people.
also...
*joe sang a lot of back-up on most of the songs. i don't remember
him doing this in october, but maybe i missed it. anyway, he has
a very cool voice and it blends wonderfully with the music.
*for those who didn't get to the shows and are wondering what the
new merchanside looks like... there are two new shirts - one with
the cover of hiftbso on the front with the regualar sunny day
logo on the back, the other with the fly from lp2 on the front
(really big) and the logo on the back (this one came in a white
with black ringer or pink, there may have been another color).
the stickers we've all heard about, as well as the posters.
like i said before, it was an amazing show. i saw a lot of video
cameras there... dis anyone on the list tape it? if so, i would
really like a copy of that show. please get in touch with me
and
we can work something out :)
until next time,
Jason D. Sheets <s214560@mail.nwmissouri.edu>
Starting with MK Ultra, their show was very good. I was very impressed
by what they had to offer after what I saw from them last time in
Lawrence. It seems like the vocals have really been improving.
I wish
the band lots of luck. Now about Heroic Doses, I thought there
first
song was good and from there I thought the show went down hill slightly.
The lead guitarist seemed scared of his own shadow, but that's ok he
is
very talented. I think if you could hear them play a few times
they
would really grow on you. I understand it was the bands last show
together, too bad. Now for Sunny Day, this was my fourth time
to see
them, so I will tell you that I am getting a little more critical than
I
probably should. First of all, they are still the best band ever,
no
argument. Everyone should thank Will for allowing this show to happen.
He had bronchitis and most other bands would have cancelled.
Now about
the show. They opened up with Pillars, a very solid performance
of the
song a 7 on a scale from 1-10. By the way, this scale is not
compared
to other bands, it is compared to other SDRE shows. Next they
played
Guitar and Video Games, I'll give it the same as Pillars a solid 7.
Blankets were the Stairs was played next, for those of you who love
this
song I do to, but it wasn't quite up to par in my book solid 5.
Well
I'll keep this short. Here's how it goes from there.
100 million- 8+
ESTYA- 9
Song about an Angel- 7+
Prophet- 8
HIFTBSO- 8+
Rodeo Jones- 8
J'Nuh- 9+
(Encore)- Sometime during the intermission Jermey cut his hand
In Circles- 8
Roses in Water- 8 (a song about love, that's what Dan said before
playing the song)
The days were golden- 8+
Just a little disclaimer for myself I am no expert. I just thought
I
would do something new and rate the songs' live quality. Don't
give up
on Sunny Day while there away. Keep supporting them!!
Tony<lackmaa@hotmail.com>
after "in circles" dan said, "speaking of love, this next one is about
that"
and they went into roses.
jeremy broke a string on song about an angel so the ending was a little
off.
but he was laughing about it the whole time.
at the end of days were golden jeremy was improving a little, that
was pretty
cool. it seemed like he was all into hitting notes a little higher
than he
does on the albums also. i will not complain about that.
it was great.
people were yelling out lots of songs, and dan was laughing at this
guy in the
front who kept yelling bucket of chicken. he said something like
"i can
assure you we will not play that song, but please keep hollering it,
it's
funny to hear you say it".
the only objections i have to the show is that the set list was way
close to
the one they played last time and they did not wear their suits.
i was really
hoping to see that. my friends in austin said they did it there
and it was
cool.
anyway this is plenty long. i'll go. but first; if
anybody would like to
trade a shirt, i have the one with the guy dreaming of an anvil
(medium), for
any other sunny day shirt that is a large that would be fantastic.

if you have any other question about the show please feel free to inquire.
another show never to be forgotten.
Philo Biggins <b.philo@mailcity.com>
ok arrived at the show. tried to go in with my camera...
lame dv8 guy says--hey no cameras. put it up here. i asked them to
keep it for me. no no no. it will cost you a dollar. *drum roll..music
builds* one of our heroes enters--joe bass ..crying out--stop..give him
back his camera...we allow cameras...we allow tape recorders... whatever
they
want... i grabbed my camera and sneered at the security then thanked
my man joe bass...headed up to the merchandising booth. bought my roommate
one of the fly t-shirts. white with pink rings. how cute. and 2 stickers
for myself for a dollar. came in..forty nine hudson is warming up..they
start playing...its a good concept but drones on and the singing is minimal
and nothing to talk of
anyway. but the dissonant guitar chords and drony washes are nice.
mk ultra steps up. i chat to the lead singer and the guitarist. he is really
surprised i know the names of some of their songs. they play red cross
last and speed lab first which was nice. the lead singer of mk is hitting
on one of my
friends friends all nite.enter the champions.the boys step up-i check
out the set list. the same basic set list as usual...ending with j'nuh
first time and daze (as they put it) last. i have a set list if anyone
really wants it. jeremy is dressed quite sharply in black slacks..nice
shoes and a nice black collared button up shirt. dan in cargoes and a t-shirt.
joe is joe. will in a tank top and later becoming shirtless. dan is the
happiest man in the world as usual. i love that guy. jeremy is quiet and
always gives a
"thank you". jeremy breaks several strings and joe breaks one also...the
songs continue..
dan says-ok break..gotta fix a string. i ask for a story. dan laughs
and says-ok what would you like to hear. i say anything..he laughs...then
says--would you like to hear something off diary? yes of
course. seven seven seven! stupid dumbshit behind me. i already know
what its going to be. someone yells it--song about an angel. there's that
dumb kid yelling-red elephant again.i hear --flatland spider!
sunny day plays an excellent set...jeremy adds extra bits to j'nuh.
more chords and different words and singing....the days were golden....sings
the extra verse by himself with drums. he's trying to ad-lib melodies but
his voice is shot by this time..he tries a couple more times then walks
off
stage..everyone follows but will as usual who beats on for a bit then
stops and exits. ah. but the fun is not over. walk outside. waiting waiting
waiting. we see a figure. he cuts thru the crowd ..thru everyone and stops
directly in front of me and my friend who are apart from everyone. i say-hey
man great show as usual..he smiles and says thanks..we chat for a bit as
he signs autographs for others. next they're headed into the studio after
tonite. the odds and ends album will probably come out after this next
album..depending on what the label wants to do. hey its joe again..hi joe
nice job. he wanders around aimlessly. out comes will and mk ultra. hi
will that was awesome. thanks..he actually
seems to be sober and paying attention to me this time. we chat for
a bit. he says--hey...and pauses..i'll see you soon ok? i was like--uhhh
ok. then he walks off down to port o call down the street to get drunk
i suppose. chat with the guys from mk ultra some more. the guitarist is
ultra friendly with me and very nice. i had a feeling we would probably
be good friends if we lived in the same area. we are waiting forever. everyone
has dwindled out mostly. then out comes jeremy.
ah. hi..fantastic show..thanks he says. we talk to jeremy for over
a half hour about all kinds of things. i ask why they don't play iscarabaid
more. jeremy says he gets bored of it...we like to keep it fresh and tight.
why not spade and parade? they don't know it..jeremy doesn't want to relearn
it. he talks about how he used to be a breakdancer with a perm. and he
won 2nd place in a contest. that was funny...but he didn't do the crazy
stuff..will there be another solo album...yes yes he says..they have 2
more albums contractually to subpop..but he is very excited to do them...and
after that.. he was humble..giving most of the genius of ROTFQ to the other
guy who helped with orchestration. i mentioned the flute in carnival and
his eyes lit up and he said " that was me"...dope. stupid question i ask..what's
yr favorite video game..his eyes get big and he says--thats not a stupid
question thats an amazing question! lol. he was so funny..i could tell
he's really passionate about his video games...sony playstation--tenchu,
siphon filter..N64-bond..pc--fallout and fallout 2..he said he hadn't played
quake 2 before... then this is the best part...he told me about his idea
to make a sunny day real estate video game that would be kind of like ultima
online and the guys in the band would be "wizards or something" as he put
it and your goal would actually be to destroy them....and always updating
and online and really virtual as he put it...anyhow..we said goodbye have
a fantastic trip..God bless..he said thank you..goodbye. i went home and
slept. what a night.

WWWWWWOOOOOOOWWWWW!!!! My fifth time to see Sunny Day and they
just
keep getting better! Last night was just amazing. First off they had
a
radio interview and did an acoustic performance of Guitar and video
games, which by the way was flawless. The station was 105.7 the peak.
I got a chance to talk to Joe and Jeremy, and the word is for all you
that are wondering....It's break time. Sorry Seattle...no shows for
a
while. He told me that they're gonna just chill for a couple weeks
then
start writing the new matterial. But good news for all you in Europe
and
Japan...they're gonna kick off a tour over there in the near future.
And
for that guy that was asking about Italy...Joe says your in luck. All
those dates will be posted in the future. The Show went really well,
although Dan had some technichal difficulties with his "machine". They
kicked off Song About an Angel and Nothing was happening on Dans end.
So
they Stopped the song, Dan fixed everything, they laughed it off, and
Bam! They pulled it off Beautifully. Once Again the crowd proceded
to
yell out song titles...and once again they played the set list. But
hey..It's becoming tradition.
Greg hooked me up with the set list and this is how it reads
unabreviated.
1.Pillars
2.Guitar and Video Games
3.The blankets were the stairs
4.100,000,000
5.Waffle
6.Every Shining time...
7.Song about an Angel
8.The Prophet
9.How it Fells
10.Rodeo Jones
11.J'Nuh
And after a quick break they returned to a room of screaming fans and
played
12.In Circles
13.Roses in Water
14.The Days Were Golden
My bootleg attempt didn't happen cause my friend with the dat recorder
couldn't get out of work. I would have quit! hehe. The crowd, the venue,
the performance...i couldn't of asked for any more. I even got to meet
another lister who turned out to be a cool fellow. Well that's my
interpretation of the night, I know a few others will add thiers, and
include things that I forgot. Thanks to the Band, the management, this
list, and it's creator, for making cool memories for so many.
Jeff
P.S I know tons of Christians that smoke...whats the big deal?
jeff jones <fader80@hotmail.com>
Holy frigg'n crap! I too was at the Spokane show and was utterly blown
away by
sdre's performance. Something that I don't think was mentioned yet
was the
fact that the guys wore their suits this time - very smashing if you
ask me. I
won't droan on about how amazing I thought the show was (even though
it really
was). "Prophet" was insane - they smoked that song. "Blankets.." was
quite
animated as well too. I think my fav was "J'nuh" though..I swear Dan
played
that riff for hours on end, and Jeremy just swayed, and made his guitar
feed
back until he seemed to be some place far far away from the Metropolitan
theater. Dan's mom happened to be at the show last night too. He said
something along the lines of "Im so happy to know that my hometown
is cool.."
in reference to the crowd's participation. I brought my pocket recorder
for a
cheap tape of the show just for memory's sake, but halfway through
"Pillars"
it stimking blew up and tape was all over...funny considering I tested
it just
hours before the show.. Got a chance to say hi to Dan and Will after
the show
and talk with Jeremy for about 5 minutes. When asked what he was going
to do
now that the tour was over, Will said "Im going to get dunk." Jeremy
talked
about future plans for solo stuff, and the bain of losing finger callouses.
All in all it was an uforgettable experience.. especially for a first-timer
like me
.
Jon <Suedscars@aol.com>
DANG! Will pounds on those babys!!!!
