10/1/98...odeon, cleveland, oh...

Okay, I won't put any spoiler space on this because everyone
should know what the subject is by now.  To start off with, let me just
say that The Prophet was beyond words.  I cannot even fully express how
amazed I was.  The crowd was mesmerized and when the song ended, we
exploded.  Incredible.
For those of you who have yet to get to a show, be prepared.  As
the sound guys were setting things up, I kept wondering if the show could
possibly be as amazing as everyone said.  It was.
They opened with In Circles, then played Pillars, then rattled off
everything from the new album but Roses In Water, Two Promises, and The
Shark's Own Private Fuck, throughing in 47, Waffle, and Rodeo Jones during
the first set.  The encore went J'Nuh, The Blankets Were the Stairs, and
Days Were Golden.  Speaking of the last song - so amazing.  I dont' want
to sound like some typical emo wussy kid, but I have NEVER EVER EVER been
so impacted by a live performance as I was by the end of Days Were Golden.
Incredible.
My friends and I (we drove four hours to the show) got to meet the
band after the show - I was as giddy as a schoolgirl.  I got their
autographs on my ticket stub and told them we'd be at the Cinci show on
Monday.  They were all really nice, although it was driving me nuts that
everyone seemed to want to have an indepth discussion with Jeremy - I just
wanted to tell him I thought they wer incredible, get his autograph, and
shake his hand.  Dan called me his buddy because I gave him a pen and told
me I had to meet him after the Cincinatti show for that very reason.  ONe
of my friends hugged William and she almost kissed him (but she said there
were too many people around).
All in all, probably the greatest show I've ever been to.  And I
get to do it all over again on Monday!

hey! i was there!! it was amazing i was right up against the barracade in
front of dan...  we went early to get up front... the show was awesome
except for the fact that some fat, drunk guy keeped spilling beer and
screaming at dan and william... i talked to someone that was taping the
show so i hope it turned out ok!! pillars gave me chills and j'Nuh was
priceless!! if anyone has the setlist of this show, i'd appreciate it!!

nick <nnocera@kent.edu>

hey everyone...i haven't been able to get to computer for a few days, but i
saw SDRE in cleveland, and it was nuts. as soon as i got to the odeon, i saw
dan and will standing outside by the tour bus. wow. anyway i got to talk to
all of them and they were really nice. and i eneded up getting one of wills'
broken sticks, and he signed it for me. neato. after the show i talked to will
about why nate decided not to come back, and he said that nate actually did
quit foo fighters, and went back to SDRE, but then good old dave grohl
convinced him to go back to the foo fighters. i got pictures of the show too,
if anyone is interested in them, e-mail me privately. they're taken from up
front, so they're good shots. bye.

p.s...is there anyone else on this list from cleveland? e-mail me if there
are, just cuz i'm curious.

<RedMeansG0@aol.com>

I have only heard about 2 people comment on the Cleveland show.  It was
my first SDRE show and it f-ing rocked.  I was so excited to hear them
live.  It was probably even better because of the drugs I was on.  If
anyone taped the show I'd like to get a copy.  And to the girl with the
red sweater and the camera standing next to me(about 10 feet infront of
Enigk) you are unbelievably georgeous and the fact that you like SDRE
makes you that much more attractive.

all i can say is wow....i expected to be amazed, but i am nearly breathless.
They played seven!! what a fantastic show. quite a funny moment...the started
to play j'nuh, and about 5 seconds in joe realized he had the wrong bass, so
the had to abort and start again. they all had a good laugh about it. heres
the set list...

j'nuh (take two)
100 million

got to meet the band afterwards. Dan was unbelievably nice. PLUS...this is the
best part...some friends and i were talking with the lead singer of mk ultra,
and he asked of if we were gonna go to the chicago show. we told him we have
no tickets, so he put us all on his guest list!! so chicago...here i come.
what a great night!

-jason <Jason2178@aol.com>

HOly!
that's about all my poor brain can spit out after the show tonight at
detroit.. pretty much same set as most of the other shows... j'nuh, rodeo,
circles, seven, for old stuff.. most new lp..
coolest moment for me was when i was trying to find my cousin a last minute
ticket at the SOLD OUT show. and i walk past the bus and jeremy's standing
right next to it... i just turned to him.. and of course spit out.. "hey
you'll do fine. see ya inside",  he grinned and nodded..  found my cuz the
ticket and was happy to see the opening bands had already most finished..
two songs and three beers later SDRE was in the house. awesome.
anyway.----------- To the dude who was supposed to be wearing the SDRE
hockey jersey.. where were ya??

enjoying a long shiny moment..
elricj <elricj@voyager.net>

OK, I went to the show in Detroit as well.  It was, in my opinion, the
overall best concert I've ever been to (in 6 or so years of concertgoing).
Jeremy was unfailingly perfect, Dan had so much fun, and Will was amazing.
My friend and I were practically shtting our pants the whole time.

I talked to Jeremy; I asked him about his newer solo album, and I asked if
he would put "Oh, John" on it.  He smiled broadly, said "You like that
tune?" and I gave him an exuberant 'yes'.  Then I asked about
"Christ Is Risen" and he wasn't too sure about that one.  Still, he was
really shy, and I felt a bit uncomfortable trying to start a discussion.

I saw Will and told him to have a kickass show.  He said "I will" and
smiled.

I talked both to Dan and his wife Dawson at some extent.  They were SO
kind!  I was amazed, because Dan would converse forever.  WE talked about
Chris Thompson; he said he owns two of Chris's paintings, one which is the
hospital little people scene.  Also, this should be really cool: he and
Chris are working on another project.  Dan is writing an anthology of
short stories; he has four in the works, and the page length is about 45
pages.  And Chris is working on the artwork for it!  I was so excited!
The book is going to be titled "Grey Little Monkey" or something like
that, where the monkey is the main character.  Dan said he'd send more
information to me when it came around (I gave him my address).  Plus, I
think from my discussions with Dawson and Dan that he has a much larger
part in writing the lyrics than we think.

Great show; Ida was pretty cool!  Check them out!

Phillip Sidney Horky <phorky@umich.edu>

too have gone to the detroit show.  i think this will interest some
people.  i was talking to will, and asked him about where bucket of
chicken came from.  and he said something like, they say, william waht
should this song be called, and he says, i don't know, how about bucket of
chicken.  and what should we call this one?  how about the shark's own
private fuck.  something to that effect anyway.  sorry for the lack of
quotes, but hopefully you can make it out.  anyway, so for all the poeple
who were freaking out about jeremy saying "fuck" and those of you who
weren't, apparently it wasn't his idea.
i asked will to sign my pushead seven inch, and he told me he had lost
his.  i thought that was funny.
you know what esle i think is funny?  will is always walking around and
people never notice or talk to him.  like at the intelfest, he was running
around and people were just watching him.  or not paying attention.  same
in detroit.  will's pretty damn cool though.
sorry for all the typos, please no one freak out on me.
i tried to record the show, but it sounds like shit.  oh and also, jeremy
sang during the bridge in in circles.  i love that part.  he didn't at the
intelfest, i was disappointed.  so i didn't think he would do it here.
but if any one has a copy of the show, i would really really appreciate it
if i could somehow get a copy.

payce.

*DAVID-S-HONG* <davehong@umich.edu>

> To the dude who was supposed to be wearing the SDRE
> hockey jersey.. where were ya??

That would be me....first off I'd like to say sorry to the person who said
HI to me becuae of that very fact and I couldn't say anything really back
as I was in a conversation and when I turned around he was gone, so sorry
about that. :)
That hockey jersey was like a super hit...here's my story - there's actual
info in it at the end, but it's a bit logn to get there. :)
I'ms till a bit tired.  I just got 7 hours sleep but that was after going
40 without.  Got into Detroit at 5:35 a.m. due to bus scheduling and
stuff, and was scheduled to leave around 1:00 am Saturday to go back home,
but I ran into a few friends down from Canada and they drove me home, so
hopefully I can redeem the return part of my ticket for some money or
travel points or whatever.
So basically from 5:35 to 12:30, I was hanging around the bus station and
then I went to Greektown in Detroit (I wasn't too impressed with detroit -
maybe it was where I was but ti was all fragmented, no real 'downtown' to
speak of - Greektown was one small street...) and Greektown was right near
St. Andrews, so come 12:30 I just sat myself down outside the venue and
waited....the show started at 6:30, btw.  :)  The owner/someone who works
there came by around 1 and said "Aren't you a bit early?" :)
So anyways, aruond 1:30 MK Ultra pulls in a Van with a UHaul truck behind
it.  I'd like to say this first off about MK Ultra - like the other guy
said, he was putting people on the guest list not only for future shows
but this show as well.  There was a guy who came down looking for a ticket
and the lead singer just put him on the Guest list and a few others, this
was around 3:30.  MK Ultra as a band weren't that bad either - thier set
seemed to be over fast so that means I wasn't like feeling dragged by the
music.  Ida, on the other hand, while good, I foudn were dragging a bit
(The female guitarist didn't seem happy with the sound and the bassist
looked like she was ready to kill someone) but I think Ida would have been
really good in a diffferent mood, different atmosphere.  THey were a bit
more mellow than one would expect...  So yes.  Anyways, after MK Ultra
pulled up, so did this big honking tour bus, SDRE's.
Everyoen was moving stuff into the venue which was a bit tricky because it
had a few steps to climb so I asked if I could give them a hand, the drum
tech (didn't catch his name) is really nice if you get to meet him.  There
was another older guy in jeans whoo'se name I didn't catch either but who
was also nice - he told me to help Dawson, who was workign the Merch
counter, and who is also Dan's wife.  Dawson is really just beyond nice -
she is to Nice what SDRE is to Good Music.  We talked about a few things
but I dont' know if it's something to put on here, but really nice.  She
kept tryign to give me stuff for helping out, but I didn't wan anything.
So after this I went outside again and waited...
Joe, the new bassist, came out and talked to me, just came up to me and
said "Hi, I'm Joe, the new bassist" which I thought was really cool.  He
said he's really having a good time, that the guys were pretty mellow -
no real partying goign on inside that big bus, and also said that he hoped
to stay on with SDRE after the tour.  This could be a possibility because
Jeremy later said that Joe was great, and he had learnt all those songs in
less than three weeks, and Dan during the show said "This is Joe, our bass
player.  He's fucking amazing." or something to that effect.  But JOe is a
real nice guy, class act, he was goign to get me a poster from teh venue
(If anyone has a spare of these please send it my way!) but I had to leave
before I got a chance to meet him after the show for it.  Anyways, he went
back into the bus and the bands went out to Greektown to get something to
eat, but dan stayed in the bus I guess, because he came out later and
wanted to see the hockey jersey I was wearing (I SDRE-ized a hockey
Jersey) and really liked it so I talked to hima  bit about this and that,
he said he wanted my shirt and I todl him I'd sell it for around 200$
andhe said "Well maybe not". :)  So then he went somewhere and I was
waiting aroudn outside again and the Drum tech came out and told me to
come in and watch the sound check, and this is when I did most of my
talkign with Dawson.  She said they were trying to get up to Canada and
probably woudl soon - apparently Will and Greg have some legal issues, but
they are hoping it's old enough now that they won't be bothered about it.
She also said they were 'wanting' to go to Europe, but wether or not it
woudl happen is another thing. :) And we discussed life.
Watchign SDRE do the soundcheck was incredible.  They played "The Shark's
Own Private Fuck" which was great becasue they didn't paly it during the
show.  I got a few pics of them in the sound check which I hope wern't
taken from too far away (I didn't want to freak them otu or anything) but
will look cool because it's just SDRE with normal lighting, no crowd, etc.
I hope they come out well.  Joe kept passing by and saying "That shirt is
great!" and raving about the great posters the venue had for teh show.
I was soon thereafter kicked out witha  few other fans who had made thier
way in by the club owners...if Cindy is out there on the list somewhere
email me.  SDRE went into the band and took 'naps', accordnig to Jana,
Greg's wife - she also said that the production and everythign came out
the way SDRE wanted it, so takethese production threads and stuff it. :)
She said the band had matured and she thought most people were expecting
diary (soudn familiar, everybody?) but that this is the way SDRE wanted
things now.  So if you're going to bail out on the rising SDRE ship, now's
the time. :)
After much discussion with fans outside (There were quite a few, ehll, a
lot, of Canadians there - I was really impressed) Jeremy came out of the
bus and talked for a bit, which sorta surprised me.  Main points -
- Dan does sing backup, not only at shows, but in the album at the end of
Roses in Water, but you just can't really hear him.
- Jeremy never did an 'arty' video for ROTFQ, just was thinking of one.
- SDRE probably wont' do videos, simply because what theyw ant to do is
too grand in scope for their budget, and they were displeased with the
previous two videos for SDRE, and really want to get their hands into
everything from production to makign of the video, so it probably won't
happen, also for time restraints.
- Jeremy's holding out fine, not tired yet from teh tour nor is anyone
else, but it's still early. (I worry about tour burnout..)
- Jeremy said there was an earthy theme to the album but not
environmental, more of a getting back to the earth theme.  He also liked
Guitar and Video Games and ESTYA the most, but ti's alsways changing.  \
- Probably theya re going to stick with about 5 older songs (Usually
J'Nuh, Seven, In Circles, Balnket were the stairs, Rodeo Jones, Waffle
(Yes that's six but they play only 5) per show, the rest new stuff.  They
try to vary the set lists but you can only vary them so much with the same
songs.  I asked about Song about an Angel and hesaid it woudl be really
easy to learn again but they just hadn't done it yet.
- When asked about the Odds and Ends, he said it wasn't so much B sides as
old live tracks, and stuff that was on diary but recoreded before Diary -
he said they have Diary tracs that were rocrded like, 4 weeks into forming
the band, so it all sounds really tight and before any personal problems
started getting in the way.  And this project is still on track.
- Bucket of Chicken was recorded (Well, I am assuming not the track that's
on the 7" sicne it's different than the original) on the day when
everything sorta 'came to him' - when the thought of leaving the band was
really kernalizing in his brain.
Jeremy was really cool.  I was expecting him to be shy but he wasn't -
well, there was only me and a nother guy talkign to him, but after like 20
mins. others started to ome and If elt sorta bad so I backed off - kinda
hypocritical given that if I hadn't of been there talkign to him, people
probably wouldn't have noticed him. :)
The show was good.  (Sorry, I'm not really emotionally expressive).  Notes
- in "the prophet", Jeremy was singing at the end where you normally just
hear the "huh-uhhh" sound, but Dan was dogni teh "huh-uhh" sound and
Jeremy wasn't speaking right into the Mic so you cuoldnt' hear too well.
Jeremy also sang an extra verse to another song - I think it was, oh wait,
he sang at the end of DayswereGolden, plus in another song, not in
Circles, but a different oen.  My friend recorded the show and it came out
prety good - he's going to run it through a 4 track to clear it up a bit.
Before you bombard me with requests, let me tell you that he didn't do
"The Prophet - he did like the first bit but doesn't like tha tsong (!!!)
so stoped recording...  if you still want it email me and I'lll see what I
can do - have to talk to him yet though.
I was standing right up front for the entire show - that's why most people
probably didn't see me, that place was *PACKED*!
My shirt was a big hit.  Ithink if SDRE marketed it they'd sell tons.  I
think it was basically taht shirt taht got me most of the little 'etras'
of the show - beign able to talk to Dan, for example, wouldn't hae
happened withotu that shirt.  So I'm quite happy with the way things came
out.
If I remember anythgin else I will write it.  But righ tnow I'm really
tired....my friend also had a 'press pass' - how she managed that I have
*NO* idea! - and was backstage (Well, the equivalent of it...) and taking
pictures.  Hopefully I can get doubles, but she may also put htem up on a
page so I'll type out the url when I find out.

Anyways, bye!

10/5/98...bogart's, cincinnati, oh...

It was freaking rad.  I lost track of the set list, so if somebody kept track
that'd be grat if you posted it.
mk-Ultra was good and they only played 7 songs which was great.  But on the
other hand Gloritone was bloody awful.  They played what seemed lik 13 songs
and they were all the same except one and it was awful too.  Didn't anybody
else think of Bush when they heard them?
You all know how amazing the show's are and this one was no different.
After the show i talked some with Dave and Jeremy and tried to clear up some
of these retarded threads.  1st of all Dan does write "about half" of the
stuff, he said it's pretty close to 50/50.  He also said this was his favorite
album thus far.
Jeremy isn't an existentalist, sorry guys.  Once some good questions started
being asked they were really laided back.  Dan acted like he was going to hit
me cus i asked him for his "Velvet Elvis Theatre" shirt then i asked him for
one of his guitars.  He's really awesome to talk with.  Joe never sang and Dan
sang some.  Jeremy's voice was honey.
Ok sorry this is such a rambling post but i'm still pumped.

Kevin <GxQx@aol.com>

Hey,

Geez, I don't know what to say about last night's show, except I'm still
smiling.  and the trek from nashville was well worth it.  it was
werid--before they went into "waffle"  will started playing the
"iscarabaid" drum beat and i thought they were gonna go into that
(wouldn't that have been neat?)  greg said that joe is the one that pushed
the band to re-learn seven and rodeo jones.  they're gonna try to work on
friday and theo b.  another cool thing--on the set list, days were golden
was listed as "daze". i thought that was neat.  well rock on, i can't wait
'til i get to see them again in atlanta (and hopefully at cmj).

Katie R Krampf <musi0078@frank.mtsu.edu>

The cincy show was the most incredibly amazing show that i've ever attended. I
was moved to tears twice during their set. Afterwards i bought the poster and
went out back to try and meet them. They finally came out, Dan first. I asked
him if they were going to louisville, ky anytime soon. He said, "Not on this
tour, but possibly on the next leg." Someone else asked when they would return
to cincy and he sai, "Probably in a couple of months." He also said that they
already have most of the songs for the NEXT album.
Jeremy came out next. I asked him if there was any reason that Greg
Williamson produced HIFTBSO instead of Brad Wood. He sai that it was because
they felt that greg could really take the intensity and energy and passion of
their live set and put it on record. He said that it was also cause they were
good friends, and he's coming from the same punk rock backgrounds that they
are. I asked about astiocles. He said, "Astiocles is a secret Greek god...
well we made him up. Actually when we were recording diary, I didn't have set
lyrics a lot of the time. So when i was singing that song i didn't really know
what i was singing. When we listened to it afterwards it sounded like i was
saying 'astiocles so sideways'."  Then some kid kept telling him how the new
album sounds a lot like radiohead. He was like, "Oh yeah, I've never really
heard them." so I said (jokingly), "I think you guys sound a lot like
Mineral..." he said that he had never heard them so i explained that it was a
joke because everyone always says that mineral is a sdre rip off. I stood
around and talked to him for a while. I don't see why everyone says he's so
shy, at least that night, he talked more than everyone else. Last night was
the most beautiful night of my entire life. I can't wait to see them again.
oh yeah and when he (jeremy) was talking about astiocles he said, "yeah dan
and i made up the story of him being a greek god that could drink up the sea.
Eventually he was going to be a recurring character. Eventually the play would
be out." He was joking about the play part, so don't ask him when it's coming
out.

brandon <Swingk3999@aol.com>

10/7/98...the metro, chicago, il...

as far as the show, they played well, no major foul-ups.  joe doesn't like to
stand in the spotlight, and as far as realvideo goes, i didn't really see him
at all.

dan sang background vocals on "guitar and video games" for the first(?) time,
which was cool, on the "a story" part.  dan also did bg's in "roses in water"
-- it was cool, he did the "woah-ah-hah-hah" part while jeremy sang the
vocals.  rockin'.  before "tbwts" dan commented on how this was a song they
wrote "right here in chicago" and the crowd exploded, thinking it was a brand
new song they had written that day.  then he reminded the crowd that all the
"diary" sessions were done in chicago.  the crowd's reaction was pretty funny.
dan joked about telling people they were from chicago because "it's fuckin'
cooler."  they ended the set with "days were golden" as usual.  after the last
verse, jeremy put his guitar down and sung an extra verse, after that the
whole band left the stage except for will, who continued to play the ending
drum beat for about 2393248032234 years.  small exaggeration.

as far as the realaudio/video, what can i really say.  i'm on a 28.8 here at
home (i thought about camping out at school tonight and using their t1, but i
have no audio equipment there to tape it with) and it was okay.  the video was
more like a slide show, but the audio came out great, except for of course the
few minor stops and static that comes with realaudio.  i did tape the entire
audio stream and like i said, i will have it up on my site by, well, i'd say
about 3am tomorrow morning.  woo-hoo.

anyway, i should be back on the mailing list soon.  i got my account back up,
but my ISP is still locking my mailbox.  damn them!  anyway, see ya later,
can't wait for the 30th.

Anthony Schmidt <sycophant@netscape.net>

Last night's show was phenomenal.  Not as fast paced as some of the Diary
shows but it made up for it in intensity.  The Metro is an older theater that
seats inbetween 900 to 1000 people so by the time the band took the stage the
place was completely jammed full of bodies.  I was a little nervous right
before the show only because the roadies kept coming back out onto the stage
over and over again to retune the guitars but any threat of problems
evaporated as soon as the opening chords to "In Circles" started and the set
took off from there.  Jeremy's vocals were dead on and just watching him sent
shivers through me.  The whole band is just so compelling to watch.
Highlights: a scorching version of Rodeo Jones, along with Pillars and 100
Million.  There was some annoying chatter (if you want to talk at a show stay
at home on your couch and listen to the album) at the rear of the hall with
people screaming out requests during some of the quieter moments but overall
the band did a fine job of playing right over it.  Here's looking forward to
the future shows.

-Bill Koch <WmLKoch@aol.com>

Wow!  That's all I can say!!  It was so totally amazing!!  I felt as if I
were in a different world.  MK Ultra was 'ill', so instead Califone
played for them.  The opening bands were amazingly bad, and I even tried
to keep an open mind, trying to think how hard it must be for them
opening for SDRE.  No go.  They were terrible.  I almost would've rather
sit in silence waiting for SDRE to come out.
They opened with In Circles, of course, and it was amazing!!  I'm not
going to say too much, just because i know it's probably the same stuff
somebody else has written, but I have to say that when they played Rodeo
Jones (last song before the encore), it was absolutely breathtaking.
Everything was in such unison.  And Jeremy and Dan just smiled at each
other for an eternity!!  You could reach out and grab the happiness if
you wanted to.  The sound was perfect.  Everything was perfect.
It seemed to me that everytime that Jeremy and Dan would smile to each
other, they were playing an 'old' song.  From LP2 or Diary.  But maybe
that was just me!  =)
I get shivers just thinking about them playing.  I would die to see them
again!!!  Unfortunately, I didn't get to wait for them after or anything
like that.  My ride was insistent on leaving ASAP!!
Well, I guess that's all.  I dont' want to repeat anything that anyone
else has said.  For all who are still waiting to see a show, ENJOY!!
Faith  =)
I wanted to kill the guy with that laser pen!!  And those stupid people
behind me that were yelling "Rock and roll!!  (Turn to their friend)
Hey, is SDRE emo??  Or rock and roll?"  (Other friend) "I think rock and
roll.  (Yell)  Rock and roll!!!"

faitha98@juno.com (Faith M Jones)

yes the chicago show was cool.  i was standing behind a girl who
was holding the poster which was made out of the same material as
the booklet from the new album, so the concert smelled like the "stinky"
new cd.  it was like i walked into the album like gumby does books
and there they were playing but it still smelled, i think good.
i swear dan said something (and i'm not the only one from my group
who thought this) along the lines of "chicago is great, and we're
NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN."  maybe (hopefully) i misunderstood him,
but whoever else was there or watched the webcast maybe can shed
some light on that.
i talked to dan afterward, i had him sign my (very expensive) flatland
spider insert.  he thought that was cool, but he said, "i can't believe
you paid so much for that, i have like thirty of them sitting around
my house."  some guy asked him for one then but he said no.
some of the people mobbing jeremy were very drunk and it was all
"jemery, whatres yours faaavrit bands?"  and he would say "i really
like the beatles, and u2, and the cure" and then they would say,
"whosre aresyours biggesht influenciz?" and he would say "i really
just told you who they were."  "canigiveyou a bighugnkiss?"
but that's ok.  but then will came out and i wanted him to sign my
flatland spider insert too, but people went nuts.  there was this
REALLY drunk girl who fell down a few times, and she went up and
grabbed his ass!  he said, "um your hand is on my ass" and everyone
was all "hey he's married fuck off drunk girl" but she wouldn't.
so everyone stuck out stuff for him to sign and he was running in
and i was holding the insert and showed it to him and he stopped
and said "wow!  this is OLD!  cool!"  then i talked to him for a
second about his jamming with hovercraft here at the metro some years
ago, and he was nice.
also, dan pointed at the sun on the flatland spider insert (which
is very similar to the cover for hiftbso) and said do you recognize
that?  i told him it came across as familiar.  dan rules.  i'm so
glad he was singing last night.  i'm also so glad they played waffle
and the blankets were the stairs but i was so sad because i saw the
setlist and the shark's was stuck in there in TWO separate spots
and scratched off both times!  boo.  but that's ok too.
also remember the big question of whether days design by jeremy and
days were golden would be the same song?  well of course they weren't
but the singing that jeremy does at the end of days were golden without
his guitar (which is breathtaking) is FROM days design!  i was very
excited to learn that.  anyway that is all i have to say that isn't
stupid (even though some of it was.)

i have now fullfilled my life's destiny. those of you that haven't caught
sunny day yet...you will not be disappointed. a few points on last
night's chicago show at the metro:
absolutely brilliant. jeremy was way on...i even got home and copied my
tape of the show (which sounds friggin' unbelievably awesome) right away
(3 am).
joe DOES sing, he did backing vocals on in circles and guitar and video
games.
the person with the laser pointer was a stupid teenage four-foot nothing
chick who was too far in front of me to grab her by her neck.
and yes, mr. brian mccall, dan and jeremy traded opening riffs to the
prophet...very cool.
dan is so very cool.
later boys and girls.

gloritones weren't that bad... early 70's tinged guitar noodling.
calitone came to the wrong venue.  the crowd wasn't very forgiving, although
it was somewhat humorous the rude comments got old quickly.
the show was excellent... I gained a better perspective on songs from the new
album, particularly the live version of The Prophet which felt like a full
projection of the flat image left on the album.  j'nuh is still the best.
fortunately, the crowd vibe seemed to be head-nodding, staring in amazement,
and yelling for songs.  down with moshing!
re: the comments on talking with jeremy/dan after the show (nice remark about
the list, dude with long red hair) ...
jeremy said he hasn't read much, and is just now getting into tolkien.  and
his major influence was U2, as the probing drunks managed to figure out.  his
voice is certainly more impressive live than on a weak recording medium.
dan seemed ecstatic about being back on the road, but in a hurry to escape us
pestersome fans.
if you've gotten to the end of my post and don't mind answering a frank
question which has a practical application for me:
you're at a show, and some dork in front of you is 6'5" and you can't see.
what would you like me to do?  I feel bad obscuring people's vision, but I
want to see the band too.  reply privately, fitch@mailbag.com if you have an
appropriate solution.  maybe I should just stand in front of a speaker.  rock.

"give the list a chance",
