9/07/98...bumbershoot festival, rock arena, seattle, wa...

That show was so incrediblly, beyond words, other-worldly
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!! They played, in I don't remember what order:
seven, in circles, 47, the blankets were the stairs, sometimes,
waffle, j'nuh, pillars, every shining time you arrive, 100 million,
the prophet, how it feels to be something on, guitar and video games,
days were golden.
Of the sunny day shows I've seen, or all the ones I've heard on tape,
this was THE BEST!!!!!  many of the songs they played  they had
NEVER played live before. like, they never played tbwts, or 47, or
waffle! It was so INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!! The mixing of old and new songs
is so fuucking PERFECT!!!!!
Jeremy played his SG on the  old songs, and his les paul on the
new ones, his SG being tuned down to D, his les paul in standard
tuning, so whenever he put on his SG, you knew they were gonna play
an oldie. It was so cool.
They OPENED with the blankets were the stairs! I fucking shit a
brick!! Then they played SEVEN after that! and somewhere I heard they
would never play seven again!! the rest was just kind of a blur as
far as order goes until they ended with J'nuh and then Days  Were
Golden to end it off. Somebody probablly knows the full setlist in
order.
The crowd sucked fatty but that really didn't matter. After the
show was over I felt like I was on drugs. I like, had problems
talking, and was all jittery and tweaky, I still feel mass weird. I
felt like I was on Mars for a while.
All you people who are gonna see them on tour should be PUMPED AS
FUCKING HELL!!! because they are gonna BLOW YOUR FUCKING
MIND!!!!!!!!!!!! You don't even UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahh man!! During Sometimes...I was just tweaking out so fucking
bad that the people behind me like, grabbed me and were trying to
hold me still, because they thought I was having a seizure or
something. JEREMY FINALLY SANG THE HIGH PART ON SOMETIMES!!! HE NEVER
USED TO SING THE HIGH "SOMETIMES" BUT HE DID!!!!!!!  I WENT TOTALLY
INSANE!!!!!!!!!!
allright, I'd better stop for now so I can get some rest. But I just
needed to let everyone know exactly what they have in store for them,
SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE IS BETTER THAN EVER!!!! AND COMING SOON TO A
CITY NEAR YOU!!!!! IF YOU DON'T SEE THEM THEN YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON
THE BEST THING YOU WILL EVER SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! allright....
bye for now.

Matthew Thomas Carlson III <SXHX71D@Prodigy.com>

I saw them and I liked them.
the band fuckin kicked ass
the crowd fuckin blowed goats
they played lots of old-skool stuff
anyone going to see them on tour, prepare yourself for a really really
good show
someone else will post all the details

ryan <ryanhor@juno.com>

hey all.  this is anthony schmidt (normally anthony@foxinternet.net).

i'm still off the list and i miss you all like crazy, but i should be back soon.  i just stopped by to tell you all about the bumbershoot show.  since i'm not on the list i don't know what's already been posted or whatever, so i'll just tell you everything i know.  well let's see.  to make sure that we could make it in, i had to sit through eve 6 (ewww...)  but of course it was worth it, and the show just reaffirmed
my beliefs that sunny day is the world's greatest band.

here's the setlist:

 1. The Blankets Were The Stairs
 2. Seven
 3. Guitar and Video Games
 4. Pillars
 5. Waffle
 6. Every Shining Time You Arrive
 7. 100 Million
 8. 47
 9. The Prophet
10. How It Feels To Be Something On
11. In Circles
12. Sometimes
13. J'nuh
14. Days Were Golden

yes, ladies and gentlemen, sunny day is really back.  obviously they spent all of august learning their old material.  it was beyond amazing.  i don't have words for it.  i literally nearly cried.  i could describe every song and how perfect they all were, but i don't have time.  if anyone has a tape of this show, please write me privately (at this address)  since i am not now on the list.  i would like to add this show to my site like the moore one, with realaudio and all.  ryan?  i don't know if this is common knowledge around here yet, but someone after the show told me that sunny day *will* be playing that rumored old firehouse show sometime soon, and the show will be billed as 764-hero ONLY.  if you see an upcoming 764-hero show at the firehouse, GO!  write me here if you know anything else about this.

Anthony Schmidt <sycophant@netscape.net>

Sunny Day played with so much more emotion that I have seen them play
with in a LONG time. They seriously rocked out. Jeremy was everywhere. Be
prepaired for this tour, seriously.

My personal opinion is also that they were not on cue as much as they
were the first Moore show. I mean, At the Moore show it seemed a beat
wasnt missed, and not a single note was sung off tune at all,but Jeremy
didnt rock quite as ahrd as he did at Bumbershoot. At Bumbershoot, a few
notes were off beat and off note but man did they fucking rock. They just
fucking were flying.

My 5 dollars.

by the way, NEVER, EVER see Eve 6. We gave em the Shark. Yes, if you saw
a 3 guys with this shark, that was me.

9/27/98...the trocadero, philadelphia, pa...

All i can say is wow i just got back from the 1st sunnyday stop PHILADELPHIA!
thaey were absolutley amazing amazing amazing  if u plan to go see them u will
have the best time i promise. if u dont plan to see them well theres
something wrong w/ u.
mk ultra opened up they weren't anything special and gloritone cancelled so i
cant comment. they opened up with in circles and let me tell  the new songs to
look forward to PILLARS, GUITAR AND VIDEO GAMES, and THE PROPHET were the best
hell every song was amazing they played the whole new album and maybe 5 older
1s they seemed to be very happy to be back together sharing the same stage the
new bassist was very good, jeremy and dan couldn't stop thanking every1 for
their applause they loved every minute and so did every1 there, umm what else
?.....well i took a lot of pictures and ill be happy to send every great
sunnyday fan on this list a few of the good 1s when i get them done BUT!!!!!!!
if u want to use them in any way u must ask my permisssion email me after all
i am doing u a favor do me 1 ok?

K E V I N <DEEGROOVY2@aol.com>

yeah, i went too.  what a fucking great show.  i strongly urge everyone
who's on the fence to fall on the sunny day side!!

i think the set list was a bit different from the one posted:
in circles
roses in water (with reprise)
how it feels to be something on
100 million
waffle
every shining time you arrive
pillars
the prophet
guitar and video games
rodeo jones (with clipped last surge, no "rodeo jones, wait for me there")

---

j'nuh (with extended ending)
the sharks own private fuck
days were golden (with jeremy's extra verse and will's drum coda)

anyway, i can't believe they played so much from lp2!! waffle was excelent,
jnuh was great, esp. dan's "jnuh" part at the end. and rodeo jones. well.
let me just say that it's the funniest thing in the world watching people
trying to mosh to it.

joe has mad chops on bass.  i only noticed one spot where he fouled up a
bit, and then it was minor.  but you gotta respectt someone who can learn
that much music in such a short amnt of time.

jeremy and dan had such a rappord on stage.  the looks on their faces
during the prophet were priceless.  you can tell they're in this for the
long haul - not for the cash. they're doingit for the love of sdre.
refrreshing.

william goldsmith beats the shit out of his drums.  i still have the
breakdown from roses in water in my head.  but then again, he didn't
overplay, either.  like days were golden, after jeremy's extra verse
(beautiful beautiful) he just kept tapping that simple beat with his hot
rods.

all in all the band was very into their preformance, even joe.  they were
so focused, so into the moment, but not so serious to not thank the fans
(dan did about 10 times).

oh, and i hung out in the alleys of chinatown after the show. it paid off.
ill spare you the usual flighty shit and give some cold facts i learned
from talking with the band:

- william smokes american spirit cigs.  anyone who plans to stalk the band
should come prepared.  (he's the sweetest guy in the world.  don't be
afraid to talk to him. someone kicked over his beer and instead of being
pissed, he said, "ah, that stuff tastes like shit anyway.")
- he shot down the "environmental concerns" excuse for lp2's packaging. "we
had already broken up, and they kept calling us for artwork.  we couldn't
come up with anything, so i just said, 'why not just make the fuckin thing
pink?' oops." -will, paraphrased.
- will's glad to be back.
- "woo hoo! alright" - dan's reaction to finding out that flatland just
sold for $120 on the net.
- for obvious reasons jeremy's seconfd solo lp is on hold. he seemed kinda
taken aback when asked about it.  kinda like he musta been when people
asked him to play sdre songs on his solo tour.
- "there are only two...three... four... uhm, less than ten" people who are
allowed to hug jeremy, so don't ask.
_jeremy signed "the prophet's" lyric page b/c i told him it was my fave
song on the disc.
- joe had to learn 16 songs in 6 reharasals. (what did i just type?)

ok that's all for now.  pester me privately for more details. ill try to
scan my signed copy of lp2 and send it to anyone who asks.

love len  <ljd128@psu.edu>

i forgot to add one thing

why they don't play 48 live -
will: "i was listening to it the other day, and i was like 'what the fuck?
my drum part sucks!'"
dan: "its such a beautiful song. it's hard, tho! we can't remember how to
play it!"

i went to the philly show last night and it was amazing! mk ultra opened and
they played too long i think but i could stand them, i think they just played
longer cause gloritone's singer was sick so they cancelled. but then sunny day
came out and everyone applauded like crazy of course. they opened with in
circles (the only one of off diary they played) they played all of the new
album except for two promises. they played the prophet but jeremy didn't chant
he just did the humming. they also played  rodeo jones and j'nuh for he
encore. the encore went: j'nuh, the shark's own private fuck, days were
golden. dan played the j'nuh, j'nuh. j'nuh part extra long and william played
the drumming at the end of days were golden super long. here's the set list,
to the best of my knowledge:
in circles
roses in water
how it feels...
100 million
waffle
the prophet
pillars
every shining time you arrive
rodeo jones
guitar and video games

encore

j'nuh
the shark's.....
days were golden

something like that. anyways, the show was great and there was a mosh pit
during the shark's....i think. there was also a fight outside after the show.
they all seemed so happy to be there and dan kept joking around with the
crowd. they thanked everyone a lot too. the new bassist is really good as
well. sunny day played for a full hour. someone in the audience told them not
to stop and dan said something like "i have to stop to switch guitars, man."
dan sang backups too. it's a shame i couldn't see william too well. he didn't
put he drums up on the podium ike every other band i have seen at the
trocadero, he had them to the right of all the band members. during the last
song, days were golden, jeremy took off his guitar and stood up to the mic and
started singing and humming something, it had sort of a gospel sound to it, it
was really nice, but that's all i can remember now if i remember anything
later i'll write again.

keith <PalaceStar@aol.com>

hi -- new to the list -- very excited to be here :)

i was at the philly show last night too, and can i just say (and i'm
sure that EVERYONE will agree) that they are the best band in the land,
hands down.
i thought that the new bass player was excellent, and their sound
couldn't have been better.  they all totally gelled like they've been
playing together with no hiatus at all.  beautiful...  i'm still in
shock at how good rodeo jones was, despite the last verse being cut --
still one of the best songs they can do live.  i was kind of hoping to
hear more stuff from diary, like 48 or blankets were the stairs -- i
have no complaints though.

there was so much energy and emotion in the Trocadero last night it was
sick.  i thought that one of the best things was during 'in circles'--
the opening song --  you could literally hear everyone in the club
singing right along OVER THE MUSIC.  their set was amazing -- i just
can't say enough nice things about these guys !!!!

i will definitely be going to the cmj show in november -- can't miss
that. does anyone know if passes are available yet?  i think i might try
to go to the boston or providence show before that if i can make it.

bye for now -->  Shari <sroulin@erols.com>

sunny day kicked all ass!!  the set was amazing and you could really tell
that they were glad to be together and playing their music.  my only complaint
was that in circles sounded like shit because the sound board people were
trying to get their act straight.  did anyone else notice?  oh, one more
complaint.  i wanted a much longer set with more diary stuff.  truthfully, im
just whining, just seeing them was enough for me, they were more than words
honestly.
also, those of you who say that the new stuff doesnt have emotion are dead
wrong.  many of you wont have the chance to see them played live and that
makes all the difference.  100 million, my personal favorite off the new album
so far,  couldnt have any more emotion in it.  the prophet was amazing, jeremy
screaming will you carry me across the sea almost broke me down.
the concert also gave me a chance to see the new stuff in perspective.  i
now see where the new songs stand and how they fit in with the older ones, and
they definitely hold their own!  dan said that the new album was "near and
dear" to his heart.  well, i can see that happening to me too.  i do think
that the production of the new album plays a huge part in its criticism.  its
still awesome, but live the songs dont sound the same. so all of you do two
things.  one, go see sdre, like you needed me to tell you that.  two, give the
new album a second chance, and a third and fourth and so on.

chad <Meantime4u@aol.com>
cant wait for nov. 8th

Man, the Philly show was just the best thing that ever happened to me.
Let me tell you guys, you won't be disappointed with the new bass player. He's
very very good, and he looks like Jeff Daniels. lol
And for all of you that think the new album pales in comparison with the old
albums, just go to one of their concerts. You'll definitely see how powerful
these songs are. I was choking back tears for about half the show, no joke.
It's almost surreal... the way the entire crowd was just totally tuned in to
the music, and singing along...
I wish Nov. 8th was tomorrow,
Eric <BEANIE4693@aol.com>

Hey John..great page. I was at the Philly show on Sunday and I can tell you
that it is a miracle to say the least to have been able to witness Jeremy play
again. Dan was so happy to be on tour again, they were very enthusiastic to be
in front of the crowd which of course made for a great show....they played
just about every tune off the new lp , and started off with the prerequisite
Circles....that made me very happy. They also played Waffle, J'nuh, and Rodeo
Jones which were absolutely amazing....as for Jeff as a bass player he is
doing a just dandy job filling in for Jeff Palmer (and of course Nate) as he
didnt miss a beat and was as hyped as the rest of the band. Half of the crowd
at the Troc that night didn't know who Sunny Day were (it's very common here
in philly to not care who is playing but to go to a show) but they all now
know why many of us SDRE fans have been waiting for this tour for about 3
years. MK ultra was fair....and Gloritone didn't show up.  So all in all it
was the best show I have seen in a long long time and any SDRE fan will agree
with me when they stop in your hometown.
Collin E. Flatt <CE2dope@aol.com>

The show was incredible, everyone knows that.  I got to meet the band
afterwards, just like everyone else did.  I talked to Dan, William, and
Jeremy, and here's what I learned:
William was elated that Flatland Spider sold for $120.  He kept trying to
get Dan's attention to tell him, but he was with other fans...
William uses thinner crash rides than before.  In front he said he used a
24" and a 22".  I'm not a drum tech, but I figured I'd pass the info on.
Dan looked happier than _we_ were after the show.  I think they must have
been surprised at the turnout.  During the show he kept saying,
"thanks...this is so nice."
I asked Jeremy about the Odds and Ends release.  He said that they were
still planning it.  I mentioned something about hearing "The Onlies...or
No.9".  He said, "I don't know about the Onlies.  _I'd_ like to have it on
the record.  I don't know, we really don't have enough songs!  <laugh>"
I also asked Jeremy if he had any advice for an aspiring musician.  Not
that anyone cares, but I just finished a Frog Queen-like album.  (No
connection, I hadn't heard of ROTFQ when I started it.)  It was recorded
solely on a 4-track, with me playing all the instruments...etc...just
without the orchestra.  He said  just keep recording and then keep playing
shows.  We sorta bonded on the whole 4-track thing.
"The 4-track is the ultimate way for you to not be good, but sound good."
    -Jeremy
I gave him a copy of my self-produced cassette single.  I don't know if
he'll listen to it, but I can hope.
I think that's about it.
Also, did anyone else notice that, at least for the Philly show, J'nuh was
played in standard tuning?  It was the only old song that wasn't played in
DGCFAD tuning.  Why do you think this was?

Mike...still mystified by the show

Mike Pumphrey <pumph@onix.com>

9/28/98...irving plaza, nyc, ny...

ok guys, the nyc show was quite possibly the best show i've ever been to, i
can hardly wait for the nov. 6 cmj showcase (by the way - tickets are on sale
now at irving plaza for $14 - the spinanes, murder city devils, and heroic
doses are also playing)
anyway i tried to keep track of the set but after awhile  i just absorbed the
music..
the openers "scout" were annoying (someone yelled "play a sebadoh song" at one
point) but mk ultra was great and sounding more mod than ever.. plus they were
really good sports - the bassist said something like "we know who you're
really here to see".. they opened with 'in circles' (again) which practically
started a riot.. then they played.. i can't remember the order, surely someone
will post a set list soon.. ok, well they played roses in water, 100 million,
hiftbso, i don't know, i'm still sort of dazed by this whole experience.. will
played a great solo at the end.. anyway the crowd was really great and
everyone was nice to everyone and all was well.. i don't ever recall being so
exhausted, sorry i can't think well enough right now to even make a decent
post, but i felt like i had to say something about the show because it was so
amazing.. and, uh, "hi" to the guy wearing the blue hat and the weston shirt,
i hope you're on this list.

sorry this is so inadequate,

the shortest person at the whole show
EDlSDEAD@aol.com

Incredible.  My head is spinning.  Surreal is the only word to describe
it.  I saw them this summer at the same place and i didn't think that
could be matched.   I couldn't have been any more wrong.  Jeremy was so
intense that it almost scared me.  Tears welled up during every shining
time.   I can't even write.  Ok here's my half assed set list.
Everything on HIFTBSO except 2 promises and the sharks...   Rodeo
jones(which blew my mind) waffle, jnuh, off of LP2 and in circles and 47
off of diary.   I may have forgoten 1 but i dont think so.

There was somebody there with a very nice recording setup fairly close
to where i was (in the middle).  Are you on this list????  If not does
someone on this list know this person????  I will give my right leg for
a copy of that tape.  Email me privately.  Famousmortimer@att.net

HEY KIDS
I was at the NY show yesterday (I was first in line sitting on a lawn
chair and i had HIFTBSO blasting out of my jeep) and at about 5 pm jeremy
arrived and hung around out side the bus with William----so I walked over and
spoke with them for about ten minutes while jeremy smoked.. Jeremy was very
laid back and he appologised for being so tired. said he hadn't gotten much
sleep... Will was running around like a mad man because he lost his drumming
shoes. one of the roadies offered him theirs but he said he was kind of
supersticious about them. I spoke to jeremy about Jeff and he said that he
likes jeff alot, but the problem was that jeff had been burnt before by a band
he toured with and he wanted to sign a contract for $2500 a week. But jeremy
said that they only made about $2000 profit  each for the whole tour so their
was no way that it would  work out. As for the new bassist Jeremy said they
were going to complete the tour with him and that he might stay with them
after that,, but nothing is definite right now.  as for the show -- it kicked
ass- I won't give you description of it because im sure some one else will...
but SCOUT was pretty good-- a nice pop feel... MK ULTRA

<Kazpr@aol.com>

i forgot another dan tid-bit.  some kid asked him to sign a ripped up piece of
loose leaf...to which dan responded "what is this...you find this in the
street?"  i said that we had spent all our money on the tickets, joking of
course.  dan said "yea, it's crazy what they're charging now".  good to know
someone's not in it just for the money.
and about waffle.  in the beginning part where our knowledge of the lyrics are
a little vaugue...jeremy seemed to be singing something different.  i don't
know what, but the sylables didn't seem to match those on the album.  waffle
is my favorite sunny day song...and it never really bothered me that i
couldn't make out every word.  it just doesn't matter.  it's the music and
melodies that make the song so beautiful...and it would be just as beautiful
of jeremy say moon or dream.

i'll shut up now
virginia <Vbm923@aol.com>

hey kids,
so, yesterday (the 28) was my birthday, and it super rocked.
1. seeing sdre.
2. various cool life things.
3. getting the set list.

so, here is the set list, off a paper plate (i am pretty sure it is dans)

circles
pillars
g+vg
47
100,000,000
estya
prophet
waffle
hiftbso
rodeo
_____
jnuh
roses
days

that is all as written.

let me just agree with everyone who said the show rocked, cz it did.
i saw them once before with shudder to think, and this was even more
incredible.  the new stuff definitely stood up with, if not above
the older stuff, and had a completely different feel live than
on the album.  my only gripe was the lack of new merchandise,
they had all the tshirts from diary, the albums, and some vinyl.
not too exciting.
as for mk ultra and scout...  seemed weird and out of place, not
my thing...
also, what was up with crappass videos between all the bands???
anyway, i would love to get a tape of the show, cz i would.
anyway, definitely check them out in yr area if its not sold out...
later.

ted <THCANNON@vassar.edu>

9/29/98...9:30 club, washington d.c.

Just got back from the DC show tonight.  After listening to SDRE for
about 4 years now, I guess, it was just amazing in itself to be seeing
them live.  All of the sudden they were flesh and blood, right in front
of me.  I didn't have the luck to meet anyone in the band (hey, I can
dream), unfortunetly, but still a perfect experience.
Anyways, as far as a set list goes, here are what songs they
played.  Now, the problem is, with the exception of a few songs, I have
no damn idea in what order they were played.  I was to much into my
little dream state, but here it is anyways.  Maybe another SDRE'er who
was at the show can correct me..  I'll leave some spoiler space as
someone on the list requested a little while ago...

In Circles (I DO remember they opened with this)
     Pillars
(here's where it gets hazy..the order is wrong, I ga-run-tee it)
     Guitar and video Games
     100 Million
     The Blankets were the stairs
     Every Shining Time You Arrive
     The Shark's Own Private Fuck
     The Prophet
How It Feels To Be Something On
     Rodeo Jones

     Encore:
     J'nuh
     Roses In Water
     the Days Were golden

I don't think I forgot anything, but, combined with the fact that
I'm exhausted and drained from the experience, I wouldn't be surprised
if I did.
As for the opening bands, I didn't mind MK Ultra.  I'll agree that
they didn't really "fit" in, but they seemed like nice guys and they
were putting forth effort.  Hell, they have to open for SDRE, that's
hard enough.  The band before MK I cannot remember the name of, but they
were ok too.
SDRE was simply fucking amazing.  I got my ass up to the very
front, towards the right so I was pretty damn smushed once they came on
stage, but it was worth it.  As soon as In Circles started, the crowd
just went nuts.  I have never experienced something like that in my
life.  It was like a spark that just set off a stick of dynamite.  The
crowd were all singing, no, SCREAMING along to the chorus w/ Jeremy, not
to mention hoppin and boppin and all this good stuff. I don't have the
ability to jump around and get all wild for some reason, but I had a
good enough time just sort of bobbing my head and absorbing the music.
Every song was great, in my opinion.  I did notice that people
weren't AS into the new stuff as the old stuff.  People reacted really
well to Pillars and Guitar and Video Games, but it was still the old
favorites like J'Nuh and Rodeo Jones that sent everyone into a frenzy.
On a side note, this isn't an insult, really, but Will looks scary
when he's playing drums.  His face just contorts demonically and there
was one point when he was bathed in red light and I thought he was the
fucking devil or something.  :)
I'm really getting tired so I'll end it here, for now, but I'm
sure there's tons of shit I'm forgetting.  Oh yea, one more thing, at
one point after a song when people were applauding (sp), Jeremy humble-y
said "thanks for clapping".  Damn, it almost made me feel sorry for him
or something...like he thinks we're doing him a favor.  I just wanted to
jump up on stage and tell him he's the fuckin man and shouldn't be so
damn hard on himself.
Of course, then SDRE probably would have never exsisted.
Ok, I really need sleep...forgive the psychotic rantings...Ill try to
be more coherent tommorrow...

Tempus Fugit <kayzee@pop.erols.com>

"if you ever have a band, don't have numbers for the titles of your songs."

---daniel hoerner.

yes, ladies and gentlemen, dan said this very quote from last night's show.
people were making requests like crazy and i suppose with all these numbers
being yelled at you and you haven't played the songs in so many years, it's
a little frustrating. (and i'm a freak because i carry a pen with me and
wrote it down as soon as i heard him say it...)

setlist:

in circles
pillars
guitar and video games
the shark's own private fuck
100 million
the blankets were the stairs
every shining time you arrive
the prophet
how it feels to be something on
rodeo jones

encore (same as other shows):

j'nuh
roses in water
days were golden

okay. my experience seeing sunny day real estate for the first time last
night is very similar to the accounts that have been spoken of previously.
only i sorta liked mk ultra. sorry guys. and i felt really bad for
gloritone because their singer was still sick with the flu and yet he
played anyway. plus, you have to admit that both opening bands are
respectable since they seem to like sunny day a lot. the mk ultra guy was
saying how great it is to be on tour with them because they get to see sdre
play every night.
we waited outside for 2 hours before the show.
then we got inside and waited another 2.5 hours.
i was very close. up against the rail which i am thankful it was there
otherwise i probably would have fallen down during the show.
it is indescribable. literally there are no words that i can use to tell
everyone how it is to see them. like tempus fugit said, they were there.
flesh and blood. which is so ... strange. but very very good.
it's interesting to hear jeremy's voice for so long, and then see pictures
of him, and THEN see/hear his voice coming directly from him. it's more
surreal than you think.
the whole evening was unearthly. i was not in d.c. most of the time. my
mind was off in amazement land. i stood most of the time with my jaw
hanging open. absolutely wonderful. better than that really.
they played the days were golden (favorite off the new one). there was an
extra long ending on it where they were all playing and then slowly dropped
off. first dan and jeremy and then joe. they just walked off the stage.
then will was left do that beautiful drum part from the song. doing it all
by himself in a lonely blue light.
will beats the shit out of his drums. they were throwing a bunch of broken
drumsticks to the crowd after the show. i saw pieces flying while he was
playing at times. i was in shock.
dan and jeremy often smile at each other. it's really great. they look like
they are so happy being back together and doing what they do. everyone in
the band fits in so well.
every part is great. and when put together, they make something even greater.
jeremy introduced greg and some other people onstage. i was wondering what
greg looked like. hi greg.
after the show, they did that "appearance" thing where if you know where to
go, you can get autographs and whatnot.
personally, i think autographs are silly. i have no use for them. i think
they're even exploitative at times.
but i stood in line (how crazy that felt... i was standing in line to meet
someone.. and yet they're just people like everyone else... they just
happen to have affected many people through music... but we have to Stand
In Line??).
and then i got up there. had nothing to say. how can i sum up to them what
sunny day means to me within a couple of minutes?
so i shook dan's hand, said "nice to meet you" and walked away. then i
shook jeremy's hand, said hi and walked away.
yeah i felt bad. they seemed confused. but i couldn't bring myself to say
anything.
and that was it. i encourage everyone to do what they can to see them live.
i can't describe it accurately. you have to see for yourself. they are like
no one else.
