Do you need a very

secure non-hazardous

industrial waste

only landfill?

Lea Land's

new southeastern New Mexico landfill has it all.

The Lea Land, Inc. Landfill
sits atop more than 200 feet of sandy clay with no useable groundwater.

Here are the facts:

Convenient
Access

The site is 32 miles West from Hobbs, New Mexico and 30 miles east from Carlsbad, easily accessible from U.S. Highway 62/180 directly into the landfill or by a rail spur located on the property
  Monitor
wells
Water from the monitor wells will be tested periodically to determine any infiltration into the saltwater monitoring zone.

No usable
groundwater

Extensive testing identified no usable ground water under the site. Ten test borings were drilled between 125 and 200 feet deep. Four monitor wells are completed in a salt water sand at approximately 200 feet.
  Waste
certification
All waste stream analysis must first be submitted to Lea Land for approval by our waste analysis personnel. After the waste has been determined to be non-hazardous, the company of origin is notified of approval. Thereafter, all loads wil be received by certified non-hazardous manifests and scheduled delivery.
Natural
barrier

The tests indicate very dry sandy clays from the surface to the 200 foot salt water zone. If the liner should ever leak, no contamination will result because no usable groundwater exists below the liner.

No surface
water flow

The site has no surface water flows across the site and a surface water control system provides protection of the waste area during rain falls which are primarily in September. Average annual rainfall is 10-12 inches.
Design
advantages

The site has a 60 mil HDPE Geomembrane Liner, a self healing Geosynthetic Clay Liner, a leachate collection system, a rainwater drainage system and a final cover will be a Geosynthetic clay liner, 12 inches of intermediate cover, and 6 inches of revegetated topsoil

Non-hazardous
industrial waste
only permit

The first Non-hazardous Industrial Waste Only permit issued by the State of New Mexico, Environment Department, was awarded to Lea Land, Inc. on February 27, 1996

13 million
cubic yards
of waste
capacity

The 160 acre site is situated within a 640 acre tract served by a four lane divided Federal highway with direct access into the landfill gate. Federal lands surround the site on all sides.
  Detailed
records
Detailed records by weight and location are maintained on all waste in the landfill. No municipal solid waste is allowed on the site.
        24-hour
security
Access to the site is monitored by 24-hour security and gate control

Nine key factors must exist for a
landfill to be considered secure.

We have all nine...
and we've added a tenth.

The nine key factors environmental
engineers list as essential for a landfill to be
considered secure are:

1. Easily accessible to transportation,
both by truck and
rail.
2. Low population density.
3. Low alternative land value.
4. In poorly permeable, high-clay soils.
5. In flat terrain.
6. Never in fractured bedrock.
7. Well away from drinking water wells and
floodwater plains.
8. Should be lined with an impermeable liner.
9. Low rainfall and high evaporation.

These nine are all true of Lea Land's landfill .
In addition, our site possesses a tenth extremely
important advantage to ensure no future liability
problems:

10. No useable groundwater below the site.
